Some of the wealthiest people in the entire world including royalty from Brunei and Saudi live on what is fondly known as "Billionaires' Row," a regal and gated street home to some of the most exclusive residences owned by none other than billionaires from places such as India and Russia. Lakshmi Mittal, the steel tycoon well known as the richest man in all of Britain, also makes his home here.
Where are the Most Valuable Post Codes in the United Kingdom?
The most valuable post codes in the United Kingdom have been identified in an up-to-date list by the property website Zoopla.co.uk. As was expected after recovering from a startling low in 2008, London now dominates in property prices.
According to Zoopla.co.uk, Kensington, London's W8 area, tops the list of the priciest post codes in the UK. Here, the price of an average home may be upwards of £1.5 million, which is nearly a nine and a half percent increase over last year's prices despite this uncertain economy. This rather valuable community is also home to the UK's most exclusive street, Kensington Palace Gardens. Sell a property on this street and the average sale would net you a cool £18 million.
Outside of London, the only area that appeared on the Top 10 list of coveted post codes in the UK is Virginia Water in Surrey. Currently, prices there average around £920,000.
In addition to the notable Kensington, four other areas in the UK can boast having pricey post codes including Chelsea and Knightsbridge where homes sell for just under £1.3 million. Over in West Brompton, average home sales are £1 million while in Notting Hill, property prices hover around £1.2 million.
The actual number of streets located within the most expensive postcodes in Britain where home sales top more than £1 million currently totals 1,995. An impressive 1,418 of those streets are right in the country's capital city. Outside the boundaries of London, streets located in golden post codes can be found in Leatherhead, which has 40, Richmond with 44, and Guildford with a total of 47 streets.
Topping the list outside of London for the most expensive place to call home would be Windsor and Maidenhead where home sales are about £393,000, the slightly lower South Gloucestershire area which averages £367,000 per home sale, and Surrey which sees an average property sale of £348,000.
Nick Leeming, the commercial director of Zoopla.co.uk, was quoted saying, "As a nation, we are obsessed with property values. The past 12 months has seen house prices in the leading areas of the country rebound at a far faster rate than average, contributing to a widening of the North-South divide."
Finally, there at the other end of the spectrum, where average home prices are the least expensive, are places such as Hartlepool and North East Lincolnshire. In these particular areas, home sales are less than £120,000 on average.
